hello again internet viewer, thanks for stopping by.
my apologies for not posting things sooner, but i have just returned
from a two week visit to tokyo, visiting galleries and taking in the sights.
i plan on starting a flickr page with images from the trip, as i took over 1400.
i will be posting about 12 new photo collages, as well as the two new large
scale installations completed for april's two person show with terrance payne
at rosalux gallery, a gallery that i have enjoyed being a member of for the last
two and a half years, but now have left to pursue other options.
there are multiple shows on the horizon, as well as three or four new
publications coming out with my work showcased. details as i receive them.
this saturday night, if you're in minneapolis, stop by the soap factory for my
installment of the newly created "common room", i was asked by south 12th's
andy sturdevant to spin some of my favorite sides of vinyl and talk about how
record collecting and the hunt for rare and unpredictable sides influences and
parallels my artistic practice. hope to see you there.
images of new work will be posted soon, thanks again for looking.
i hope 2009 is treating you well. things in minneapolis are busy as usual but sprinkled with hockey game viewage and comfort foods.
i just finished up a group show with the burning artist co-op at umber studios in south minneapolis. it was a well attended opening night and went until just past 1:30.
the show was writen up in a few places about town, and was the subect of a two part essay by critic michael fallon. you can read that article at secretsofthecity.com. images of the new installation and drawings can be viewed here and there.
ruben nusz was asked to provide a minneapolis top ten list for mnartists.org and was kind enough to include me in the list. i owe him a beer.
i'm starting to plan a minnesota state arts board funded trip to tokyo for the summertime, if anyone has any suggestions of landmarks, eateries, galleries, attactions, cultural what nots and japanese ephemera to take part in/enjoy, please let me know.
drop me a line and give hellos.
cheers,
andyducett (@) gmail.com
happy october to you all, i hope that you're doing well. things here in minneapolis
have been quite busy for me. i've been teaching 4 classes this semester at
UW-Stout as well as making lots of new work. i'll be saving most of that work
for my upcoming shows, but i'll give a few sneak peaks now and then, such
as these two new photo collages:
i have about 8 new drawings in the works, as well as three new installations, i'll
post previews of those in the coming months.
in other news, i've just been awarded a minnesota state arts board artist initiative
grant and will use to the money to travel to tokyo and los angeles next year to
attend my tinlark opening and meet with gallerists in japan. thank you MN for
the opportunity.
i recently finished a large scale site specific wall drawing for griffin international
in minneapolis, mn, i'll have images posted when i get a chance to document it.
also of note was the three person collaborative show that myself, ric stultz and
michael joseph winslow had at umber studios last april... we exhibited around
40 drawings that we've made over the last 4 years as well as creating a 6' x 6'
site specific wall drawing. examples of the work can be seen here on umber's
web site, as well as here when i get them posted. until then, here's a few
process shots of us working on it:
howdy from a still frigid mn. the thermometer has been in the range of -15
again this week. i hope you're someplace warm.
thanks much to eiketsu baba from aebisu.com for the post on his site and being so
active in organizing exhibitions and engaging in the broad art narrative. thumbs up.
darren tesar and patrick gantert had a great conversation about the faculty show
at the university of wisconsin-stout that i was a part of... it's posted on art canary
excellent discourse, gents.
i've spent the last 5 months converting a minneapolis space to what is starting
to look more and more like
my new studio. i am quite fond of my new chair too.
teaching 5 courses this spring has kept me busy , so there has been
too little time for junking, thrifting and record shopping. but LOST is back
on and march is plodding along. giddy up.
first of all, thanks to all of you who have stopped by
and wrote me with kind
words via the excellent website drawn!.
where some of my photo collages
were recently featured.
on that note, more photo collages are in the works, BUT,
I NEED YOUR HELP.
i'm looking for old 3" x 3" photographs that I could use as
starting points for the works. do you have any? do you know where I
can get some? (check under the collage section to see what kind i've
been using) let me know if you know of any place, i know you're parents
have a ton. ask them. send them to an excellent home... mine. email
me for an address: hello (at) andyducett.com
in other news, visit the newly updated burning
artist co-op website... it's been a long time coming, but the collective
has awoken from it's slumber and is ready for a drink.
in conjunction
with the show at
the soap factory, i took a picture every time something was added
to the installation and had it made into a time lapse version of the
creation process. that and the interview i did are available right down
here:
that's the report from this area, why don't you tell
me how things are with you
and yours, it'd be lovely to hear from you.
hello from these parts, reader. things have been busy
but good in
the city of minneapolis. the
soap factory show recently closed and was
visited by about 1500 people, thanks to all who came and saw the show.
i've updated the installation section with the work that
was on display there, have
a look.
i am currently featured on
fecalface.com, an online magazine based
in san francisco, much appreciated fellers.
i will be included in the upcoming Midwest edition of New
American
Paintings, watch your local book or art store for limited copies
of those.
other than that, drawing, canoe trips and biking are keeping me busy,
i hope your summer is shaping up for you.
salutations friends,
here we are. you are there and i am here, and hopefully all is well
with you and there. minneapolis is warming up, and things have been
quite busy. i've been working on another large scale installation for
the upcoming Soap Factory show, and will be moving it from my basement
* to the space in the next few days. new drawings are in the works as
well, there are currently 6 large scale pencil and pen drawings in progress,
but they probably won't be posted until after the Rosalux show in August.
other than that, some early john cale and the jam records are on their
way to me, exciting times in the upper midwest. on the turntable: can
(egebamyasi), asie payton (worried), roxy music (country life), the
knife (silent shout), yeah yeah yeahs (show your bones) and RJD2 (deadringer).
* working the basement have been challenging for a few reasons, mostly
the 7.5' ceilings and the acrobatics required to circumnavigate the
project, the other being the artistic authority that the two cats wield;
callous, swift and seemingly without regret they have made a few "decisions"
that are interesting. the orange one has a particular fondness for the
christmas lights.
ps- i just got this in the mail. very awesome, i think they will work
nicely.
greetings from the tundra that is now the uppert midwest.
i think it was something like -10 the other morning when i woke up,
good times.
well, since the last time i spoke with you, things have gotten busy,
i am currently teaching at UW Stout in menomonie, wi. that town is like
a vacuum. a beer soaked scenic vacuum.
the show at the IPR in urbana, Illinois is in it's final days, i have
below, submitted for your approval, images of the space that roughly
350 of my collages were displayed.
i should be canoeing tomorrow, instead my immune system
decided
to crap out on me and allow me to catch a cold. so bunk. this
weekend is the annual UW-Stout Brule River canoe trip and it looks
as if I'll have to wait another year. zounds.
in recent news, i have just become a member of the Rosalux
G allery in downtown Minneapolis. i'm told that there is a group
show in the works before the end of the year, I'll keep you posted.

well, well people, it's been a while. so to you i say,
hello.
these words are now being typed from a place called minneapolis,
my new place of residence. until my job starts at the
walker, my days are
spent covered in old lead paint residue and furniture stripper. good
times says i.
my studio is almost set up; much of my three dimensional materials are
still in boxes that look as if they were marked in an indecipherable
language of days past. new drawings are in the works, and the sketchbook
pages are flowin', so something should be available for view soon.
i was recently featured in the The
Ninth Letter's "Where We're At: Nine Collections"
series; investigations into the similar and in this case taxinomical
idiosyncrasies found in the midwestern region. linda duke of the indianapolis
museum of art wrote a nice companion piece to the segment, you can read
it by putting your clicker here
and clicking.
busy times here on the pararie of champaign, il... my
last few
weeks as an illinois resident, finishing my thesis (much of which
is about record shopping as a glorious metaphor for art practice), and
getting ready to make the move to MN.
of note: "MONSTER" opens on friday at ispace
in Chicago,
here is an image of the display, 168 collages were used.
(click on the image for a larger view)
a new show has been added to upcoming events, "past
exhibitors"
other than than that, keeping busy and keeping wax on the turntable.
greetings from mid/late june. i don't know how this happened,
i mean, getting to be this late in the month so quickly.
don't get me wrong, i understand the intricicies of time passage,
but damn. here we are, june 22.
UPDATES!
check out the boot
sale photo section under other/archives.
the photos were taken during the summer of 2oo5 in London, UK.
busy month here in champaign, and other places as well;
i went camping and mountain biking in south western kentucky a few weeks
ago with richard j. stultz,
and then in minneapolis last weekend, a city that i will be relocating
to in july, starting work at the walker
art center in the carpentry shop.
NEWLY UPDATED AREAS:
i added about 40 more bag collages for your viewing pleasure;
i will be showing about 350 of them at the ispace show in chicago.
also look at the
arrangements catgory in the other/archives section
that is much of my earlier assemblage work, all of which eventually
led into the larger scale installations.
finally, two more sections under drawing; architecture and collaborative.
while you're there, check out the two latest mixed media drawings.

hello again, i
don't have enough information to erase last time's blurb, so i'll leave
it below... BUT, check out the installation section, i just
got that uploaded. the first installation, "and then on that (city)
street..." was the work displayed for my m.f.a. show in april,
have a look see.
